Saima Wazed for equitable society

Renowned school psychologist and daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Saima Hossain Wazed has said that though at present she does not have any future plan about joining politics, she wants to work to the best of her ability for establishing an "equitable" society in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
"Politics is in our blood. People of our country are politically conscious. I've no future plan regarding politics. But I'm quite sure that I'll work for building an equitable society where both able and disabled, every person will have equity in every aspect," she said.
Saima Hossain Wazed, also the chairperson of National Advisory Council on Autism and the Bangladesh Representative of USA-based Autism Speaks made the remarks in an interview with UNB.
Saima Wazed, who is acclaimed worldwide for her relentless efforts for ensuring better lives for the mentally challenged people particularly children with autism, said people of Bangladesh believe strongly on their family.
"People believe us very strongly… it is the people's belief which is our inspiration to work for their welbing," said the grand daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On autism, she said sympathy or affection towards the autistic children are not enough for ensuring their easy and smooth lives. "Parents, guardians, teachers and every person in the society will have to accept the autistic children with full love and feelings."
Describing autism as a very complex matter, Saima Wazed stressed the need for providing training to doctors, teachers and even parents on how to detect autism in children early in their lives.
"Training on autism symptoms and the solution to parents are highly important. If the parents are conscious about the symptom and child's autism can be detected within first two years of birth, autism can be addressed effectively," she said.
Replying to a question on making the rural society aware of autism, she said now-a-days internet facilities have reached even to the union level. "We can easily disseminate information using the information technology. Even ICT facilities can be used to provide training to the teachers and parents."
The autistic children would have to be facilitated to get admission in the mainstream educational institutions, Saima Wazed said.
Regarding the recently held regional conference on autism in Dhaka, she thanked Indian Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi and other eminent persons for participating and making the conference a success.
"Governments, national and international development organizations all will have to work unitedly for ensuring a better world for the children with special needs," she said.
